A few years back I went to a little art gallery in NYC that was showing the great art my friend Rich Jacobs makes. While checking out his art, I came across a pencil drawing he did that was based on an old photo of mine. The photo was of the mighty Infest. I felt so honored that Rich would make a really nice drawing based on a photo of mine. But I'm sure he was motivated more by the greatness of Infest and less by my photo. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of or a copy of Rich's artwork to share here, but here's the original photo:
Infest at Spanky's Cafe.
Riverside, CA.
Maybe sometime in 1990.
So, for a little while now I've been trying my hand at linoleum block printing. Lacking some motivation and the skills to draw up something nice to eventually turning into a linocut print, I decided to try to make a print based on one of my photos. As I was trying to think of which photo I should try to work from, I remembered Rich's rendition of the Infest photo. Using that as motivation, I carefully went about turning the photo into a carved linoleum block. Here are the results:
Infest linoleum block print on paper.
Infest linoleum block print on wood.
I'm quite pleased with the results. I'm going to be making some more of these and will eventually have them available in my Etsy shop.
